By Aaron Humes: In the era of COVID-19, Belize’s suddenly battered tourism industry is fighting to return, led by tour guides who show the jewel’s wonders to visitors and Belizeans.

In one of its strongest estates, Ambergris Caye, guides were given advice on how to conduct tours while following globally recommended COVID-19 health and safety precautions, turned to familiar with Tourism Gold Standard protocols for guides and provided a forum to exchange views on how to ensure the safety of guides and guests.

The Belize Tourist Board (BTB) and the San Pedro Tour Guides Association hosted 64 guides, both members of the latter organization and others, at San Pedro Junior College.

Association president Billy Leslie told colleagues, “COVID-19 is here to stay and as guides we play a vital role in saving our country when tourists visit. This training was well planned and well executed. He reminded guides to be constantly on alert and to follow all safety protocols such as mask wearing, social distancing and proper disinfection procedures. Our San Pedro guides play an important role in rebuilding the economy, so these opportunities to prepare them to stay safe are welcome. “

The Board of Directors plans to reiterate the important role played by our tour guides in ensuring that clients comply with health and safety protocols and in providing a quality and memorable experience for our clients in other similar training sessions. in our main tourist destinations in the country in the next weeks of 2021.
