The 10e Macau International Travel (Industry) Expo (referred to as “Expo” or “MITE”) will be held at Halls A – B, Cotai Expo of the Venetian Macau from September 23 to 25, 2022. Offering free admission for the public, the Expo will feature seven major highlights that are fueling integration between “tourism+” sectors. Under the theme “Cheers for 10e MITE”, members of tourism and related sectors can connect, forge partnerships and explore business opportunities together.

The organizer Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the coordinator Macau Travel Agency Association co-hosted a press conference today (2 September) to draw up the program for the 10e MOTH. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, MGTO Deputy Directors Cheng Wai Tong and Ricky Hoi, and Macao Association of Travel Agencies President Alex Lao attended the press conference with d other personalities.

Inaugurating a new chapter out of 10e anniversary

Senna Fernandes highlighted: “In 2021, MITE achieved accreditation from the World Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) as a “UFI Approved International Event”. This recognition is a great encouragement for us to achieve this year a success that has lasted for ten years. Our dedication will continue in the pursuit of excellence, innovation, quality and impact, as we strive to bring Macau’s unique strengths and impact to Expo. The event will deepen the integration of “Tourism +” and contribute to enriching the dynamic offer of Macao as a world center of tourism and leisure, directing the economy towards adequate diversification.

Industry delegates from around the world explore business opportunities

The Expo will offer a confluence of cloud series and physical exhibitions to deepen the integration of “tourism +” as before. Industry operators can explore business opportunities online and offline, thereby invigorating the tourism economy. The exhibition floor covers approximately 23,000 square meters and will accommodate more than 842 booths this year. The event will engage exhibitors and buyers online and offline. To date, some 471 exhibitors have registered to participate. There are 197 local exhibitors and 247 offline continental exhibitors, as well as 27 online exhibitors (including 24 international exhibitors and 3 continental exhibitors). There are 286 buyers in total, including 221 offline buyers and 65 online buyers.

Seven highlights with new zones and pavilions to deepen the “tourism +” integration

The Expo will feature seven major highlights and incorporate new elements for deeper integration through ‘Tourism+’. The Cloud series will be enriched. New features will be showcased, including the Lusofonia Pavilion, the “Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin” area, the Macao Wedding Destination Pavilion, and the Palace Museum as a new exhibitor. The Macao Tourism Industry Zone will set up not only “Macao Street”, but also the COTAI strip for the first time. The Expo will continue to promote local cultural and creative products. Culinary Demonstrations “City of Gastronomy” will take place and the “Pavilion of Gastronomy” will welcome sponsors, as last year, among the fascinating diversity of highlights.

Free admission for the public

The 10e MITE will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 24 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 25. Members of the public can make an appointment in advance online. Admission tickets will be distributed free of charge at the entrances to Halls A and C of Cotai Expo at Venetian Macao. During the Expo, free shuttle service along four routes will be provided between the event venue and various local points. Free parking will be available for Hall C residents.

Strict compliance with COVID prevention measures

Following the advice of the Health Bureau, the Expo will once again adopt a series of preventive measures against the pandemic such as disinfection of venues and staggered admission hours.

As before, an online appointment system is put into operation to ensure “admission quota, appointments in advance, staggered periods”. The public can plan their visits to the Expo on the official MITE website (www.mitexpo.mo) starting today (September 2). Upon admission, those with a prior appointment can obtain a receipt for 10 patacas which can count towards their consumption quota required to participate in the grand draw. The public may also queue for walk-in admission, which will depend on the flow of visitors on the day. Individuals are required to show their valid Macau health code in green, scan the location code, have their temperature checked on admission, wear a mask and maintain social distancing.

Public-private partnerships present wonderful 10e MITE edition

The 10e Macau International Travel (Industry) Expo is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, organized by the Macau Government Tourism Office and coordinated by the Association of Macau Travel Agencies. Co-organizers of the expo include the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macau SAR Government Cultural Development Fund, the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone Executive Committee Economic Development Office in Hengqin, Macao Chamber of Commerce, General Union of Macao Neighbor Associations, Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Macao General Women’s Association, Chinese Association Overseas Returning Macau, Macau Tourism Agents Association, Macau Travel Industry Council and Macau Hotel Association. Integrated leisure business partners include MGM, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, SJM Resorts, SA, Wynn, Galaxy Entertainment Group and Sands China Ltd. Other partners include Bank of China Macau Branch, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau) Limited and CTM – Macau Telecom Company, Ltd. TDM is the media partner.

UFI Approved International Event

The first edition of MITE was held in 2013. MGTO has assumed the role of organizer since 2016, striving to provide Macau’s unique strengths and impact as a platform, to stimulate the concerted development of sectors” tourism +” and to help trade connect, forge partnerships and seize business opportunities. In 2021, MITE received accreditation from the World Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) as a “UFI Approved International Event”, showing the world its international influence and professionalism.
