Dubai PM merges economy and tourism ministries under one department to ensure government efficiency


The Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the amalgamation of Dubai’s Ministries of Economy and Tourism under one organization known as the “Department of the Economy”. and Dubai Tourism ”. The decision was taken to strengthen government operations in Dubai and increase its efficiency and resilience to keep pace with rapid changes in the world, while ensuring the competitiveness of the business and tourism sectors in the country.

Mohammed bin Rashid even made the decision to appoint Helal Al Marri as the director general of the newly created department. Quoting Mohammed bin Rashid, ANI reported: “The new department seeks to support the economic and tourism transformations underway in the emirate. It will adopt the same competitiveness and efficiency of the private sector and work with it on various development projects.

The Prime Minister went on to say that Dubai’s economy has gone through several stages of evolution over the years, contributing to the city’s current position as a model of economic growth which has effectively made it a popular tourist destination. He added that the nation’s aspirations have grown in recent years and priorities have shifted. He believed that new ways of thinking are needed to improve their competition with the world.

The objectives to be achieved by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism

In order to further improve Dubai’s first place in tourism and economy, Mohammed bin Rashid said the ministry is tasked with achieving seven goals to make it the best city in the world to live and work in. Increase the added value of the industrial sector by 150% over the next five years, expand the export industries of local products by 50% and increase the number of tourists visiting Dubai by 40% to 25 million by 2025 are among the few goals that the department must achieve.

By 2025, the new department is expected to make Dubai one of the top five cities in the world in terms of key economic parameters, attracting 100,000 businesses over the next three years and hosting 400 global economic events per year. The new department will also be responsible for promoting the listing of private and family businesses on the Dubai Stock Exchange.

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism would also aim to improve Dubai’s efficiency by attracting international investment, developing exports, assisting SMEs and formulating new strategies for new sectors of the city’s economy. . The new framework will further assist decision-makers in formulating policies and assessing the strategic performance and implementation of the economic sector.

In addition, Mohammed bin Rashid said, “Our message to the Department team is that Dubai today is different from yesterday. Dubai’s future will depend on your performance, your ideas and your efforts, ”ANI reported. The new structure will also contribute to the simplification and reduction of procedures related to the issuance of business and tourism permits, further allowing the most efficient use of human resources. and financial resources.
