Ho Chi Minh City ranked seventh among the top 10 destinations for coffee lovers in the world, endorsed by travelers around the world, according to online travel agency Booking.com.
âHo Chi Minh City is home to upscale cafes and many other traditional places where locals and tourists alike can sit on plastic stools that line the streets enjoying ca phe sua da, a ground roast coffee grown in Vietnam and often served over ice with condensed milk, âsaid US-based Booking.com.
The online travel agency has showcased Vietnam’s rich and varied coffee culture, with many regions creating their own specialties, including ca phe trung, or coffee with eggs.
Egg coffee was invented in the 1940s when there was a shortage of milk in the city, prompting a bartender to use a substitute. The alternative, beaten egg yolk, has made coffee one of the country’s most famous drinks.
Booking.com also recommended international travelers to join a Vietnamese coffee tour to experience and appreciate the local coffee culture.
Sipping coffee in the morning has become a way of life for Saigon people as they chat with their peers on plastic stools strewn along the sidewalks as the city wakes up and traffic takes over.
A cup of black or white coffee, the city’s favorite drink, ranges from VND 10,000 to VND 15,000 ($ 0.44-0.66).
Napoli in Italy was named the best coffee city in the world, followed by Lviv in Ukraine and Rome in Italy.
