The Sazerac company recently announced that it is bringing to market a second edition of the “Mister Sam” blended whiskey, and the phrase will be made with some of Sazerac’s finest American and Canadian whiskeys.
Created to honor Sam Bronfman, or “Mister Sam” as he was affectionately called, this blend was created by Sazerac Master Blender Drew Mayville, whose career included 22 years at Seagram where he was the fourth and final Master Blender under the Seagram banner.
While developing Mister Sam, Mayville would have had at his disposal a plethora of Sazerac’s finest stocks of American and Canadian whiskey.
This project holds a special place in the heart of Mayville, said the native Canadian now living in Kentucky.
“Creating Mister Sam has been one of the highlights of my career,” he explained in a prepared statement. “The second version is very reminiscent of the first, with the same bold and complex flavors, but I think this blend is even closer to perfection. We mixed it with whiskeys which softened the explosive finish slightly to allow greater enjoyment of the essence of the whiskey.
Montreal was the seat of the famous Seagram Company and its patriarch Sam Bronfman. This forged what is described as a lasting relationship between the two companies.
Today, Sazerac owns 15 former Seagram brands, including Seagram’s VO, Seagram’s Five Star and Seagram’s ’83, as well as its own distillery in Montreal.
