A consumer commission has ordered the online travel portal Make My Trip to pay 15,000 as compensation for a lack of service.
The District Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission – II Hyderabad was dealing with a complaint filed by Harish Bheemarthi, a resident of Alwal. The opposing parties were MakeMyTrip (India) Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram, and their office in Banjara Hills.
The complainant stated that he had booked four international plane tickets under the âBest Price Guaranteeâ offered by the opposing parties. According to the offer, if a customer finds a cheaper ticket from an Indian online travel agency, the company will refund a much higher amount within 24 hours.
The complainant said that shortly after booking tickets, he checked the airfares on other portals and found them cheaper by 6,000 per ticket. He then contacted the opposing parties and forwarded the evidence, but the company refused to consider his request on certain grounds.
Denying all allegations, opposing parties have said the offer is subject to certain terms and conditions. A customer is not eligible for this offer if promotional codes, coupons, corporate discounts are used and the claim has been rejected on that account. They also said the route did not match.
The Commission noted that the opposing parties had not filed any evidence demonstrating that the route was not the same, but the complainant had done so. This would make the complainant eligible for the offer.
As a result, the board ordered the opposing parties to pay compensation in the amount of 15,000 and reimburse 24,000, the difference in airfare for the four tickets. A fee of 5,000 was also imposed.
