Located on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, Cancun is a beach lover’s paradise.

Its popular resort area, known as Zone Hôtelière or Zona Hotelera, is connected to the mainland by a causeway. On one side of the resort is the calm Laguna Nichupté and on the other side: the inviting Caribbean Sea. It is here that vacationers are known to revel along the white sandy beaches, explore palm groves, and snorkel in coral reefs.

With an average annual temperature in the ’80s, Cancun is generally warm and balmy, although the evenings can bring cooler breezes by the water’s edge, perfect for sipping mezcal on the beach.

While it seems a world apart when visiting, Cancun is an easy flight from major US cities, with non-stop flights from Seattle offered by Alaska Airlines and Delta. After arriving at Cancun International Airport (CUN), guests can spend their days exclusively in the Zona Hotelera or embark on adventures along the peninsula to explore the cenotes and ruins, the bustling towns of the waterfront. warm and inviting sea and waters.

Whether it’s all-inclusive or a la carte, there are a few must-see restaurants here at the Marriott. Guests can taste everything and everything from Southwestern to Thai, Argentinian to Japanese, with American comfort classics widely available. But the unmissable SacBé Beach Shack embraces an authentic Yucatán vibe with its bohemian vibe similar to that of nearby Tulum.

SacBé is a quaint lunch spot, where cushion seats and hammocks line the beach, and lobster tacos and nachos with mole are the shining stars. Still, food lovers may want to book a private group mezcal tasting that combines Mayan and Yucatán bites with a range of drinks.

This special tasting menu is hosted by the mezcalier at the Marriott Cancun and features a fusion of local flavors and traditional Mexican cuisine. The resort offers 50 different varieties of mezcal, and this intimate experience is a wonderful introduction to the range of flavor profiles.

Diners at SacBé Beach Shack are tempted by mole nachos and sopic chicken escabeche, showcasing the best of local Mexican cuisine paired with typical Caribbean flavors. Much of the menu reflects the culture of street food, and every bite makes you want more.

This is just one of the Marriott Cancun Resort’s many restaurants, and guests will find an abundance of flavor day and night. Starting with a huge breakfast at Sasi Thai to the southwest’s favorite grilling options, this all-inclusive pass can come in handy.

There is also a new restaurant on the way this winter. The new Hana restaurant concept will offer tropical and fresh flavors in Polynesian-inspired dishes. Think ahi tuna salad, crab cakes, smoked grilled octopus, and Szechuan baby back ribs with mashed sweet potatoes.

And, if you’re craving even more flavor and fun, there’s a world of restaurants along Kukulcan Boulevard. Right in front of the Marriott is Chambao, a trendy restaurant overlooking Laguna Nichupté, offering a creative fusion of aromas and flavors. Chambao is called a “trendy grill,” and while this can be partly explained by saying that the place is full of sculptural models, dancing DJs, the occasional fireworks display, and a few circus acrobatics, it really takes an in-person visit to experience this place at full throttle.

If you want table entertainment without the glamorous dress code, visit the Mikado teppanyaki grill at the Marriott, where you’ll witness a solid chef performance and enjoy a freshly cooked meal in a family environment.

For health and wellness enthusiasts, Marriott offers a large fitness center with free guest access and a full-service luxury spa with body wraps, facials, and massages.

What to see, do in Cancun

While the Marriott Cancun Resort has just about everything to make for a great family getaway, there is still more to explore just outside its doors. Just down the street is Aquamonde, which houses a surf simulator and water park designed for the whole family, as well as several excursions for snorkeling and diving.

Snorkeling is definitely recommended, as MUSA – an underwater art museum – is simply fascinating. For a museum experience on land, take a tour of the Mayan Museum of Cancun to explore regional history and important archaeological artifacts.

Golfers will find a great tee time at the nearby Iberostar Cancun Golf Club, while shopaholics should stop by La Isla, a multi-purpose facility featuring an interactive aquarium, an outdoor plaza with rows of restaurants and shops, as well as a casino and a Ferris wheel offering a Ferris wheel panoramic view of the city and the coastline.

Right in front of La Isla is Yamil Lu’um, the archaeological remains of a Mayan temple. Ruins like this are scattered throughout the hotel zone, but a trip along the peninsula will yield even more archaeological and cultural history.

The staff are truly wonderful and want to make sure that guests have a great experience. During my visit, I quickly got to know the cafe staff who greeted me by name every morning. Mario was also a familiar face whenever I strolled through the lobby bar for a refreshing cocktail. And although my stay was only a few windy days along the beach, I easily felt at home here and started to think about when I could plan my next visit for more beach time. , more mezcal and definitely more tacos.
